Winter Quarters

Before going to our Griggs Family Nauvoo Trip, the kids and I flew into Omaha, NE to spend a few days with my sister-in-law Laura before heading over to Nauvoo together. (Brad has been working in Mississippi for the past few weeks. He is meeting up with us in Nauvoo.) Our flight had to be one of the worst trips because 1) It was me and both kids, 2) Our first flight was delayed 2 hours which 3) made us miss the second flight and we had a 4 hour layover in Memphis, TN. I was SO glad to get there. It was a rough day.

While in Omaha, we went to the local zoo which was fun and did A LOT of walking around. Many of the animals were sleeping, what else is there to do on a hot summer day? (I forgot to bring the camera for the outing) Also, we went to Winter Quarters on the Mormon Pioneer Trail which is also located in Omaha, NE. We went to the visitors center, walked through the pioneer cemetery, and strolled around the temple.

We dressed up as pioneers! Kasey just woke up from a nap from the car ride and she was ILL the first part of the tour. I actually learned new things about the pioneers trek out west. Being Mormon is tough because there is so much info and history to keep up with :-)

The Cemetery by winter Quarters. There were some tomb stones still standing! Also, there was a monument that listed every one's name and age they died.

Byron and Kasey running around in the cemetery. To them it was just an open grassy field.

The Winter Quarters Temple sits right beside the Pioneer Cemetery. This was the first time Kasey and Beau has seen the temple! So it was special to me. Kasey kept saying "Mommy, there is the temple...there is the temple"

Kasey and Byron trying to open the temple doors. The temple entry way was gorgeous!

All around the temple were flowers. You could not help but stop and look at them. Also, Beau is SO cute here, while I am not wearing any makeup.

Trying to get a photo with the kids. This was the only way to keep them still!
We are off to Nauvoo in the morning!
